Diplomatic procedure for non-Italian students

Non-Italian students from

Countries subjected to the visa obligation

must present the prescribed documents for residency permits for studies in Italy, before April 15 of the year of their planned registration, to the Italian Consulate or diplomatic representative in the student’s country of residence. Among these documents is also required a letter from the General Secretary of the University, confirming the acceptation of registration. This letter must also be validated by the Congregation for Catholic Education, the Vatican Secretariat of State and the Apostolic Nunciature in Italy.

In order to obtain this letter, students should provide the General Secretariat with the following documents, from January 15 and before March 30:

• a written request for registration:

• detailed curriculum of higher school studies allowing registration at university in the students country of origin and, where necessary, certificates of university studies already completed or seminary studies already completed;

• presentation from a Bishop attesting to the faith, habits and good will of the student;

• letter indicating the civil and financial responsibility of/for the student during his time of study in Italy (food, lodgings and health cover), and declaration of responsibility for the costs of return from Italy. Where the declaration is made by someone other than the candidate, it should also bear the nihil obstat of the sponsor's diocesan bishop. In the case of candidates declaring to be able to fully maintain themselves, their letter should be initialed by their diocesan bishop;

• a payment of Euro 180 for secretarial costs and advance payment of registration fees. The payment will be returned in the event of the candidate not obtaining an entrance visa for Italy.

For payment, further indications will be given when candidates apply for pre-registration).

After April 15, Italian Consulates or diplomatic representatives do not assure the timely release of visa for the following academic year.
